Promoting Visibility, Security, and Joy for All!

Pride Month is one of our favorite times of year at MOVES, not only because it is a joy to celebrate alongside members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community within our own organization, but because the underlying values of Pride Month align so closely with our own.

Even so, with the dramatic increase in anti-LGBTQ bills currently being advanced in state legislatures across the country, Pride Month challenges us now more than ever to educate ourselves and become advocates for at-risk and marginalized members of our community.

Supporting our Veterinary Community

MOVES is pleased to support the work of Pride VMC and its efforts to create a better world for the LGBTQ+ veterinary community. As an organization, MOVES has recently signed the Gender Identity Bill of Rights drafted by Pride VMC and we are committed to increasing our own organizational awareness of policies we can implement in order to further promote the safety and security of our LGBTQ+ team members.

Supporting At-Risk Youth

As part of our own advocacy and awareness campaign, MOVES is excited to facilitate an internal, company-matched fundraising event during Pride Month, the proceeds of which will benefit The Trevor Project, an inspirational organization on a mission to end suicide among LGBTQ young people. You can learn more about The Trevor Project at TheTrevorProject.org/explore/.

The First Pride Was a Riot

Pride month has its origins in the annual “Reminder Day Pickets” which commemorated the events of Stonewall – six days in the summer of 1969 which saw LGBTQ activists face off against law enforcement to protest police brutality and systemic injustice.
