MOVES: What does “career freedom” mean to you, and how is that reflected in the MOVES model?
DH: It means breaking free from the walls of a specialty hospital and the stress of clients and always having to be on. As a mobile specialist, you enjoy being outside multiple times per day and you are a consultant to the rDVM instead of a servant of the pet owner which is liberating.
MOVES: How does MOVES help specialists reclaim control over their time and clinical autonomy?
DH: Balanced Boundaries and Trustworthy Independence are 2 of our core values. We practice this by giving control of the medicine and the schedule to our doctors and by having an unregulated recreational PTO policy. You’ve made it to the top of your profession and we trust you to be responsible with your time and practice.
MOVES: What do you think surprises most specialists once they join MOVES?
DH: We often hear that they worry that it’s too good to be true to then be pleasantly surprised that it actually is as good as they hoped it would be. I dare you to ask around and find anyone of your peers who made the transition to mobile, and find me someone who regretted it. I say this because I’ve never met anyone who regretted it whether they did it on their own or joined MOVES as an associate or franchise owner.
MOVES: Why is now a great time for specialists to consider mobile practice?
DH: You Only Live Once and you are not getting any younger. The sooner you establish your mobile practice the longer you will get to enjoy the benefits and freedom that come with being a mobile veterinary specialist.
MOVES: What’s your favorite summer tradition?
DH: My family lives on Lake Norman outside of Charlotte NC and we really enjoy watching fireworks from our boat and grilling for our friends who come to watch the show with us.
