MOVES Expands Internal Medicine Services in Portland

MOVES® is excited to announce the addition of Stephanie Wan, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM) to our internal medicine team in the Portland, OR region. Just six months after launching the services of Dr. Kristin Schafgans, who is based on the Vancouver side of the metro area, Dr. Wan's service area will expand MOVES' reach to serve roughly 200 general practice and emergency veterinary hospitals throughout the greater Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area. Along with full-time veterinary assistant Courtney Markuson, Dr. Wan is now offering advanced veterinary internal medicine services including ultrasound and endoscopic procedures throughout the region. Portland, OR | Internal Medicine

Dr. Stephanie Wan lived in the San Francisco Bay Area after college and then attended the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating in 2007, she completed a one-year rotating internship in medicine and surgery at Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group in Ventura, CA. Upon finishing her internship, she worked as an emergency veterinarian in Santa Barbara followed by a small animal internal medicine specialty internship in Tucson, AZ. Dr. Wan then moved across the country to start her residency in small animal internal medicine at University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. Since completion of her residency in 2013, she has worked as an internist in Richmond, VA, Portland, OR, and Los Angeles, CA before joining the MOVES team in 2022.

Courtney Markuson
MOVES is also pleased to announce the addition of Courtney Markuson to our Portland team. Courtney is an experienced veterinary assistant, and she’ll be working alongside Dr. Wan to make it even easier for general practice and emergency veterinary hospitals throughout the area to host advanced internal medicine appointments.

Vancouver, WA & Portland, OR | Internal Medicine

Dr. Kristin Schafgans is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, and she received her undergraduate education at the University of California, San Diego. She attended veterinary school at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. Following veterinary school, she completed a one year rotating internship in medicine and surgery at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital. She then returned to the University of Minnesota and completed a three year residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine. She achieved board certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 2012. She then worked at specialty practices in both Spokane, WA and Vancouver, WA for several years before joining the MOVES team in 2022.

While she enjoys all aspects of internal medicine, she particularly enjoys endoscopy and ultrasound. She is very passionate about working towards a low stress environment for her patients, so her care approach is based on quality of life for both the patient and the pet’s family. Outside of work, Dr. Schafgans enjoys the outdoor paradise that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, reading, and spending time with her husband, two children, and her cat and dog.
