MOVES Celebrates New ACVS Diplomates

The successful achievement of board certification is the culmination of at least eight years of study and preparation, but for many specialists the original inspiration of their veterinary journey goes back much further. MOVES is proud to announce and celebrate the fact that two of our own, Dr. Michaela Gruenheid and Dr. Kurt Michelotti are now officially part of the 2021 Diplomate class of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Warm congratulations to both of you, and here’s to serving Central and Southeastern Pennsylvania with the very best in veterinary surgical care.

Michaela Gruenheid, DVM, MS, DACVS-SA

Dr. Michaela Gruenheid was born and raised in Germany. She began her veterinary medicine education in Budapest, Hungary and in 2009, completed her veterinary medicine degree in Munich, Germany. During her last year of veterinary school, she participated in several externships in the United Sates. It was during this time that she decided that she eventually wanted to return to the States because she appreciated the training that the students, interns, and residents received.

While working at two referral practices in Germany for almost 5 years, Michaela completed the ECFVG® certification (Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) to get licensed in the United States. After receiving the ECFVG® certification in 2014, Dr. Gruenheid was accepted into a surgical fellowship program at Michigan State University. Later that year, she was offered a surgical internship at Washington State University. In 2015, Michaela moved to Ohio where she completed her residency and masters program at The Ohio State University. She then moved to Pennsylvania in 2018, where she worked as an orthopedic and soft tissue surgeon at a large referral hospital outside Philadelphia.

He returned to the east coast to complete a small animal rotating internship at Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center and remained in Pittsburgh for another four years, where he completed a surgical internship followed by a surgical residency in small animal surgery. Dr. Michelotti is trained in soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, and minimally invasive surgery. He truly enjoys the diversity that small animal surgery has to offer. He lives in Mechanicsburg with his wife, son, and their two dogs- a Pomeranian and a Husky Mix. He is excited to be able to serve pets throughout all of central Pennsylvania as a MOVES surgeon.
